A brief history of the Baseler Läckerli
They are the most famous pastry in the city of Basel. According to legend, the Basler Läckerli was baked for the members of the Basel Council in the 15th century. However, recent findings refute this legend, as in the 15th century some of the essential ingredients for the Läckerli were not yet available on the Basel market. They first appear in a document in an account of the gardeners' guild dated 10 October 1711, where "3 Blatten Läckerlin" are mentioned.
